Lecture/ Presentation on antique maps of the provinces of France by Dr.Rosenthal*

Dr Rosenthal

In his 45 years of clinical research and practice as a pediatrician. Joseph H. Rosenthal M.D. Ph.D. has cared for over 25000 children, adolescents and adults with learning disabilities. Dr. Rosenthal is the former director of the Learning Disabilities Clinic of the Department of Pediatrics of the Kaiser-Permanente Medical Center in Oakland,California and formerly an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California Medical School in San Francisco.Author of numerous scientific articles on learning disabilities (dyslexia, attention deficit disorders, language delays ), he has also written books and produced videos pertaining to these subjects.Dr. Rosenthal has taught and lectured widely in the United States and internationally to professional and general audiences. Dr. Rosenthal's interest in maps began when he consistently got lost driving out west to California. After the first few map acquisitions, the psychopathology of collecting set in as evidenced by the passion of the hunt, the elation of acquisition and the agony of the near miss. He has an extensive collection of antique maps, atlases and travels, relating to maritime and land destinations, dating from 1493 to the 1800's. His cartographic CV includes lectures/presentations/seminars and exhibits for educational and corporate institutions. Dr. Rosenthal's lecture title is " Around The World With 80 Antique Maps " with special emphasis on the history and geography of the maps as they relate to exploration and discovery as processes in time and space. His presentations are erudite, yet animated and interactive, with interspersed slices of attempted humor and greatly enhanced by the actual display of his antique maps and by his spirited delivery of anecdotal vignettes...some true.
